North Head

North Head, or Maungauika, is a volcanic headland on the north east of the peninsular. It is an unparalleled spot for viewing the Hauraki Gulf and Auckland harbour. Spend a couple of enjoyable hours enjoying the the walk, which will also take you through a network of accessible old bunkers and tunnels built as part of the country’s defence against the Russian threat at the end of the 19th century.
